Exploring My Ideology

Hello and welcome!

I would not call myself politically savvy, but I enjoy studying U.S. and international politics. I also enjoy long walks on the beach and listening to The Offspring. This blog is about exploring my and other political beliefs along with exploring current events.

For the record, I am not alt-right or alt-lite.

The white nationalist person is pretty detestable. I would not want to be associated with him whatsoever.

According to this political typology quiz, I am a New Era Enterpriser. New Era Enterprisers are less white in comparison to other conservatives. These folks prefer the United States to engage in international trade because from a purely economical perspective, international trade and lack of tariffs are great for the United States economy. New Era Enterprisers have more progressive views such as supporting affirmative action (programs designed to increase the number of black and minority students attending college).

Many of my friends, however, are Solid Liberals. On the issue of gun rights, Solid Liberals would vote in favor of Initiative 1639 on the Washington State ballot. This might stem from the high rate of gun violence in the US. They might argue the 2nd Amendment is archaic and not useful for protecting individual rights from governments. New Era Enterprisers and being conservative leads me to support gun rights. If I voted in line with the ideology I was given (and if I was eligible to vote), I would have voted against Initiative 1639.

Surprisingly, Solid Liberals and New Era Enterprisers are similar in some fiscal aspects. Both groups are in strong support of the United States being globally active in the economy, which is a far cry from Country First Conservatives who prefer protectionism. Country First Conservatives believe the US is good at every single thing and should stick to themselves, which might translate into tariffs or dismantling NAFTA (looking at you, Mr. President). I believe Solid Liberals prefer a global economy because some might believe the US isn't good at providing every good or service and the US needs help providing these goods or services. Another reason might be our involvement in the global economy will help countries less well off, especially those who have been exploited the most. But then again, I'm not sure since I am not a Solid Liberal. I prefer a global economy simply because it is more fiscally beneficial for not only the US, but all countries who get involved.

Another point of contention between Solid Liberals and New Era Enterprisers would be government spending. On Seattle's homeless crisis, I would disallow the high spending on our homelessness problem, especially with non-existent results. However, Solid Liberals would spend more money to alleviate Seattle's homelessness problem, even if it means getting into debt.

Growing up in Seattle, many people might expect me to be left or at least left of center. So how did I end up this way?

I believe a majority of my views stemmed from my family. They dislike our local government spending so much for the city's homelessness crisis because they see little to no results due to that spending. Their dislike for reckless spending and lack of government accountability has rubbed off on me. I also feel my gender plays a big part in this too. Since I am male, I am more likely to vote Republican. That shows in my political beliefs, being closer to the right instead of the left.

That's all for this time, folks.
